The book "Painter Biographies" is a photographic research into the intertwined relationship of art, spaces and materials. This quite personal collection of photos, mostly taken by Alexander Wolff himself, spans the last 20 years and many different cities, amongst them Berlin, Vienna and Los Angeles. Recurring motifs are other artist studios as well as his own, exhibitions in preparation, artworks in homes, art materials while packaging and preparation, hotel rooms and transportation. This “look behind the scenes” of White Cubes and - walls, standardized art reproduction aesthetics and perfectly finished surfaces reveals a much more personal, physical relation to art and work - as well as constant moments of improvisation, material arrangements and social situations, like they always have been a constitutional element of artistic production.
